Funding Rate
A funding rate is a periodic payment exchanged between traders holding long and short positions in perpetual futures. When the contract trades above the underlying asset’s price, longs typically pay shorts, and the reverse when it trades below, nudging the two prices together. Funding rates are often read as a sign of market sentiment, since persistently high positive rates suggest many traders are betting on rises with leverage.
