Custody
Also known as crypto custody
Custody refers to who holds and safeguards the private keys controlling crypto assets. With custodial services, such as most centralised exchanges and specialised custodians, a company holds the keys on the customer’s behalf, much as a bank holds deposits. Institutional custodians may offer insurance, audits and segregated accounts. Custodial arrangements add convenience and recovery options but expose customers to the provider’s security, solvency and policies.
